OREHOVA VAS (SLOVENIA), 11 July 2010 – Carlos Campano (Team Yamaha Andalucia) won ninth round for the FIM MX3 World Championship in Slovenia and took 15 points in front of Alex Salvini (Husqvarna Cross 2 R) who was third. Home rider Matevz Irt (Husqvarna Tecno B) finished second.
It was another very hot racing weekend. The track was great as well as the ambience. The weekend started with the pole position of Carlos Campano and finished with his win. Matevz Irt from Slovenia took the lead in the first heat. He could not hold Campano behind and Yamaha rider passed him. Campano made some advantage in front of Irt and then Michael Staufer (Austria) came very close to Irt. But he gave up because Irt was riding to fast. Alex Salvini had a bad start and also a crash after put him behind the top. Salvini could not compete with Campano for the win because he noticed troubles with his Husqvarna bike. Salvini finished fifth so already after the first race Campano raised advantage in the Championship classification.
In the second race Irt took the lead again, this time in front of another Slovene rider Saso Kragelj (Kragelj Racing). Crowd around the track was screaming of enthusiasm while two home riders were riding on the top. But Campano was coming from the back. When he passed almost all the riders he was fighting with Irt for the first position and he was successful. Campano won in front of Irt. Salvini had better second heat but he was not too satisfied with the third place because he lost some more points to Campano.
Campano won with 50 points. Second was Matevz Irt and third Alex Salvini. The advantage of Campano is now 15 points and it is the first time this season that they are apart for more than seven points. Matevz Irt improved his position in the Championship classification and progressed back to third place. Martin Zerava is fourth and Milko Potisek stays fifth in the Championship.
RIDER'S COMMENTS
1st CARLOS CAMPANO (Spain): “When I saw this track I knew I can ride fast here. My team has been working hard the whole week because we had problems with the bike. I really like thank to everyone in the team. We improved the bike and everything was going well today. I had a good feeling. Irt started very fast but I passed him. It was really a successful weekend specially because I took advantage in front of Salvini.”
2nd MATEVZ IRT (Slovenia): “Weekend was quite good. Yesterday I was third in the Qualifying. Today I had big support all around the track what was very helpful for my motivation. I took two good starts and I am satisfied with the second place. The weather was very hot and it was difficult to ride in conditions like that. I would like thank to my family, sponsors and all fans.”
3rd ALEX SALVINI (Italy): “For me this weekend was difficult. I had problems with the bike, then I started bad and I needed to push a lot to improve positions. I crashed in the first heat. The track was very difficult and bumpy. I am disappointed because I lost points to Campano. I still feel pain in my knee but I hope it will be better for next round in Germany.”
Next round for the FIM MX3 World Championship will be in Schwedt, Germany on the August 1.
